Annoyed

Spammers. They are really starting to piss me off. First off, I've been under a constant attack of gibberish spam for two weeks now. Checking out Munuviana I see other MuNu blogs are having the same issue. What particularly pisses me off about these is that there is no URL to block, it's all complete and udder gibberish. Sunday after Ogfest I spent 3 hours de-spaming here. Yes, that is annoying and every blogger has that problem.

But I have a new and interesting problem. It appears that some spammer is spoofing my e-mail address and sending out tons of spam under my handle. I started wondering about certain failure to deliver addresses I was getting and an angry e-mail from some guy I didn't know about sending him crap, but it all came together when I received an e-mail from myself regarding getting a new loan.

If I ever knowingly run across a spammer, I'm going to kick them in the groin until I sprain my ankle.

I've been hit hard, too. I've given up. If the post isn't less than a week old, I'm just ignore the damn things.

I took Grau's advice and installed Spam Karma.
I haven't had one of those since.

Close your posts over 7 days old. That takes care of 99.9% of spam. There's a script you put in your template that does it automagically. If you want, leave the comments open for 10 days. But closing old comments generally takes care of the problem. If you want the script let me know.

I see Teresa already answered you. I was going to suggest you talk to her. She (and others) helped me close my comments after 7 days.

I use the script that Teresa talked about and rarely get a spam now. I have comments close after 10 days.

I now get maybe 2 or 3 in month instead of a dozen a day.

My has very rarely gotten spammed every since I installed the captcha check.
As far as spamming under your email, that seems to be a common practice too. Every few months or so I'll get this onslaught of "cannot deliver" emails from email addresses I've never heard of.

I like leaving my comments open. Sometimes I get whole new conversations going on things I posted months ago.

Since I switched to Wordpress, installed a CAPTCHA and SK2 plugins I haven't gotten a single spam.
Not. One.
